In an Instagram post, the couple expressed their commitment to remain a close family, bound by deep love and respect.
Their marriage took place in Montreal in 2005, and they share three children.
Mr. Trudeau’s office stated that despite the separation agreement, they will continue making public appearances.
The statement emphasized that they’ve diligently ensured all legal and ethical steps in their separation process, which will persist in the future. Additionally, they plan to go on a family holiday soon.
“They have worked to ensure that all legal and ethical steps with regards to their decision to separate have been taken, and will continue to do so moving forward,” the statement said..
To safeguard their children’s well-being, Xavier (15), Ella-Grace (14), and Hadrien (nine), the couple requested privacy.
“We remain a close family with deep love and respect for each other and for everything we have built and will continue to build,” Mr Trudeau, 51, and Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, 48, added.

Though they’ve appeared less frequently together in public lately, they attended significant events like the coronation of King Charles III in May and hosting US President Joe Biden in Canada in March.

Mr. Trudeau is the second Canadian Prime Minister to announce a separation while in office, following in his father’s footsteps. The late Pierre Elliott Trudeau and mother Margaret Trudeau revealed their split in 1977 after six years together, ultimately leading to divorce.
