Keith Muhakanizi, Permanent Secretary of OPM, Passes Away While in Italy

Muhakanizi’s death confirmed

In a somber announcement today, Uganda Media Centre executive director, Ofwono Opondo, confirmed the passing of Keith Muhakanizi, a prominent figure in the Ugandan government.

Muhakanizi, who held the position of Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office and was a former long-serving Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance and Secretary to the Treasury, passed away in a Milan, Italy hospital where he was receiving treatment.

Expressing his condolences, Opondo spoke of Muhakanizi’s reputation as a friend to many, earned through his years of dedicated service to the nation.

He tweeted:

“SAD! A friend to many. Keith Muhakanizi, Permanent Secretary Prime Minister’s Office, and former long-serving PS Ministry of Finance and Secretary to the Treasury has died from a Milan, Italy hospital where he has receiving treatment. May he Rest in Peace. Keith Muhakanizi was a friend to many because of his service. I commiserate with his family,”

The cause of Muhakanizi’s illness has not been disclosed, though Opondo noted that the late official had been in and out of hospital prior to his passing.
