In the latest Global Innovation Index, Rwanda ranks first among its income group, ahead of Madagascar and Ethiopia, and sits 9th among sub-Saharan African countries.
As part of its 2022 Global Innovation Index, the Global Innovation Center evaluates innovation trends worldwide, and highlights innovation strengths and weaknesses in around 132 economies.
Rwanda's policies for doing business, including its scientific and technical articles, are highlighted as among the nation's strengths, while Mauritania, Burundi, and Guinea lack innovation.
8 out of the 26 top innovators are from Sub-Saharan Africa, with Kenya, Rwanda, and Mozambique leading the way. Switzerland, the United States, and Sweden head up the global Innovation Index.
