In the last 27 years, the Uganda International Trade Fair (UGITF), also known as the UMA Trade Fair, has grown tremendously, attracting manufacturers, traders, and distributors from nearly every sector of the economy. The fair attracts nearly 300,000 visitors on average every year.
There are expected to be more than nine hundred exhibitors at the exhibition, compared to eight hundred fifty exhibitors at the previous one, according to Dan Birungi, the executive director of the Uganda Manufacturers Association.
Due to Uganda’s agribusiness stance, Daniel Birungi explains that they have organized special sessions to provide knowledge on cheap and efficient farming methods to local farmers.
The theme of this year’s UMA Trade Fair is intended to shine a spotlight on the industrialists, who, despite being profoundly affected by the economic crisis, played an important role in the COVID-19 response and recovery.
As stated by Deo Kayemba, the Chairman of the Uganda Manufacturers Association, this year’s theme doubles as a call for the government and the general public to support local companies in order to go a long way toward making the economy recover.
