Los Angeles, United States | NOW THEN DIGITAL — Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Burna Boy, 32, is set to perform at the 66th Grammy Awards on February 5 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. He is the sole African artist in this year’s lineup, joining stars like Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, and Olivia Rodrigo.
Burna Boy, who previously performed at the 63rd edition in 2021 and won Best Global Music Album, received four nominations this year, including Best Melodic Rap Performance, Best Global Music Album, Best Global Music Performance, and Best African Music Performance. Davido, another Nigerian artist, secured three nominations, while Asake, Olamide, Ayra Starr received their first nods in the newly introduced Best African Performance category. South Africa’s Tyla also earned a nomination in this category.
The 2024 Grammy Awards will introduce two new categories: Best Alternative Jazz Album and Best Pop Dance Recording, reflecting the Recording Academy’s commitment to diverse musical genres and the evolving music landscape.
Trevor Noah, South African comedian and former host of The Daily Show, returns as the host for the fourth consecutive year. The live ceremony will be broadcast on CBS and Paramount+.
