Benin’s Angélique Kidjo won ”Best Global Music Album Award” at the 64th annual Grammy Awards, held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday night.

- It brings her Grammy tally to five after beating competitors such as Rocky Dawuni (Ghana), Wizkid (Nigeria), Femi and Made Kuti (Nigeria), and Daniel Ho & Friends (US).
- In the Best Global Music Performance category, Angélique Kidjo was nominated twice, but she lost to Arooj Aftab (Pakistan) for her track ‘Mohabbat’.

With the win, Angélique Kidjo has now won five Grammy awards. She beat out fellow African artists Rocky Dawuni (Ghana), Wizkid (Nigeria), Femi and Made Kuti (Nigeria), and Daniel Ho & Friends (USA).
Angélique Kidjo was also nominated twice for Best Global Music Performance at the 2022 Grammy Awards for ‘Mohabbat’, but was defeated by Pakistani artist Arooj Aftab. Other African nominees in that category were Femi Kuti, Burna Boy, Wizkid and Tems.
Ms Kidjo dedicated her acceptance speech to the diverse collaborators on the LP, in particular young African voices such as Mr Eazi, Sampa the Great, and Yemi Alade.
Black Coffee of South Africa won the Best Dance/Electronic Album Award in the category Subconsciously, while Pangaea by Wouter Kellerman lost to Divine Tides by Stewart Copeland and Ricky Kej in the Best New Age Album category.
Black Coffee thanked the collaborators on the project, who “believed in working with a smaller artist like myself and trusted me and my skills.”
Among other winners, R&B duo Silk Sonic, consisting of Bruno Mars and Anderson.Paak, won the coveted Record of the Year Award for ‘Leave the Door Open’, while Jon Baptiste won the Album of the Year Award with ‘We Are’.
