Philosophy teacher, cartoonist, and columnist Jim Spire Ssentongo, who gained fame for his #Kampalapotholes campaign, has launched a new Twitter campaign, #UgandaHealthExhibition.

KAMPALA, UGANDA | NOW THEN DIGITAL — Philosophy teacher, cartoonist and columnist Jim Spire Ssentongo, known on Twitter as @SpireJim, has launched a new Twitter campaign, #UgandaHealthExhibition, following the success of his #Kampalapotholes campaign.

The aim of the new campaign is to raise awareness of the issues facing Uganda’s healthcare sector to concerned agencies and ministries.

Ssentongo emphasizes that the campaign is not a joke but a serious effort to bring about change. While the previous campaign was known for its humorous approach, Ssentongo stresses that the #UgandaHealthExhibition campaign will focus on concrete evidence. The phase of jokes will come on Wednesday; for now, participants should focus on displaying evidence of the problems in the health sector.

This follows last week’s successful #KampalaPotholeExhibition campaign, which forced a decisive shift from the government.

As of this writing, the #UgandaHealthExhibition hashtag is the top trending topic in Uganda’s Twitter space, with over 40.7k tweets on the Elon Musk-owned platform by 11 am on Monday.

Government Response

In response to the #UgandaHealthExhibition campaign, the government has launched the #MoHdelivers campaign, which aims to highlight the positive developments in Uganda’s healthcare sector.

Positive Developments

Twitter users have been sharing positive developments in the healthcare sector, such as the installation of oxygen plants in all regional hospitals, which produce 30-48 cylinders of 6800ltrs of oxygen per day, and the procurement of eight additional oxygen plants to boost capacity in RRHs.

Twitter users have also pointed out that Uganda has over 6,937 healthcare facilities, with 3,133 public and 2,976 private for-profit facilities.

It's so unfortunate & unfair to try to build a narrative that nothing good is happening in our healthcare sector. Within our budget & with good liberal policies, Uganda boosts over 6937 health facilities: 3133 public & 2976 private for profit.#UgandaHealthExhibition#MOHDelivers pic.twitter.com/IELpyK818y
