Kamwenge, Uganda | NOW THEN DIGITAL — Suspected ADF terrorists launched a recent attack in Kamwenge district, Uganda, resulting in three fatalities. Kamwenge RDC Isaiah Byarugaba Kanyamahane confirmed the incident, stating that the victims’ house was set ablaze during the Christmas Day assault. The casualties included an elderly woman, Adrine Ngwabiiji, 78, and her two grandchildren.

Efforts were ongoing to confirm additional casualties at the time of this report. A resident, arriving at the scene on Tuesday morning, discovered the burnt house with charred bodies buried in the ash. Notably, a prior report of suspicious individuals in the village had been made on Monday, prompting a police response, though security personnel were absent when the attack occurred.

This assault follows a similar incident a week earlier in Kyitehurizi village, where suspected militants killed 10 people, looted resources, and set houses ablaze. Border areas near the Democratic Republic of Congo, particularly Kasese District, have witnessed recurring raids resembling the tactics of the purportedly defeated ADF group.

President Museveni, despite previous assurances of the ADF’s defeat, attributes these attacks to remnants fleeing the joint operation launched in November 2021 by UPDF and the Congolese army against the militants. The president has vowed to crush the assailants, labeling them as remnants of a defeated ADF group.
