  • Both met on Wednesday at Entebbe’s State House during an event attended by the party secretaries general, NRM’s Richard Todwong and the DP’s Gerald Siranda.
  • As for the Democratic Party Chairman, Norbert Mao, he praised the President for being a cooperative leader, adding he hopes to even entice his party colleagues to love the relationship.
  • A number of other appointments were made by President Museveni, including Hon Hamson Obua, who was appointed chief whip in parliament to replace Thomas Tayebwa.

The Woman Member of Parliament for Agago, Beatrice Akello Akori, has been appointed Minister of State for Economic Monitoring Office of the President, while Peter Ogwang has been appointed Minister of State for Education and Sports.

The appointment of Norbert Mao as Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs follows his meeting with President Museveni.

On Wednesday, the two leaders met at State House in Entebbe at an event also attended by the Secretaries General of the two political parties, Richard Todwong for NRM and Gerald Siranda for DP.

Using his social media handle, Mr Museveni confirmed the meeting and said the signed agreement was aimed at building cooperation between the two parties.

“I met with Democratic Party President Norbert Mao at State House Entebbe. We signed a cooperation agreement between the NRM and the DP. I salute the DP leadership for this gesture of mature, foresighted and constructive politics,” Museveni said on Wednesday.

Although he is on the opposite end of the spectrum, DP continues to stand out, according to him.

“Although DP has been in the opposition, they have not been destructive. They criticise but are not destructive. You know the history. I keep telling you that DP without Museveni is not a serious group because I was a very active member of DP,” Museveni added.

In his own remarks, Democratic Party Chairman Norbert Mao commended President Museveni for being a cooperative leader and vowed to even entice his party colleagues to love the relationship.

“You must look for them wherever they are in all the political parties and in all the corners of Uganda. This is a living document. It has to continue growing and we have signed it in a good faith,” Mao said.
