Kampala, Uganda | NOW THEN DIGITAL — North Korea is closing its embassy in Uganda, as Ambassador Jong Tong Hak informed President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. The decision is part of a strategic measure to reduce the number of embassies in Africa, including Uganda, to enhance external institution efficiency.
Despite the embassy’s closure, North Korea emphasized that bilateral relations with Uganda will persist through their embassy in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea. Jong Tong Hak conveyed his commitment to maintaining the strong friendship between the two nations and praised Museveni for his consistent support in achieving a harmonious unification of the Korean Peninsula.
President Museveni, in return, commended Ambassador Hak for his service in Uganda, where he had served since 2009. Notably, North Korea follows Norway in announcing the closure of its consulate in Kampala.
