What is reflux laryngitis?
A reflux laryngitis is a voice disorder characterized by irritation and swelling of the vocal folds due to the backflow of stomach fluids into the throat.
In patients with reflux laryngitis, the common complaints include hoarseness, frequent throat clearing, a sensation of a lump in the throat, cough, and sore throat.
These symptoms are not common symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), which is caused by the backflow of stomach fluids into the oesophagus and causes inflammation.
Hoarseness is the most common symptom of reflux laryngitis, which gets worse in the mornings and after eating.
