Ambassador Muhammad Tezikuba Kisambira, Uganda’s Representative in Iran, Passes Away

Since 2020, Kisambira had taken on the role of Uganda's ambassador to Iran, a position granted to him by President Yoweri Museveni.

Uganda’s ambassador to Iran, Muhammad Tezikuba Kisambira, has passed away. Kisambira, reportedly took his last breath on a Thursday, in a Tehran hospital.

KAMPALA, UGANDA | NOW THEN DIGITAL — Muhammad Tezikuba Kisambira, Uganda’s ambassador to Iran, has passed away. As per reports, Kisambira took his last breath in a Tehran hospital on Thursday.

The confirmation came on Friday from Okello Oryem, the Minister for Foreign Affairs. Oryem shared that efforts were underway to bring Kisambira’s remains back to Uganda for his final resting place.

Minister Oryem was quoted saying, ”It’s true, Ambassador Kisambira died, and the government is working to ensure that his body is brought back to Uganda.”

Kisambira’s death occurred on Friday, August 4th, 2023, in Tehran.

Vincent Waiswa Bagiire, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry, reflected, “The late Amb. Kisambira will be remembered for his patriotic service, particularly in strengthening the bilateral relations between Uganda and the Islamic Republic Iran and other countries of accreditation.”

An announcement by Bagiire informed various parties: “H.E. the President, All Government officials, Members of the Diplomatic Corp, the Muslim Community, family, friends and all well-wishers.”

Burial details will be communicated in due course, Bagiire added.

While the exact cause of his passing remains a mystery, sources indicate that Kisambira had been fighting an illness for some time.

Kisambira had been serving as Uganda’s ambassador to Iran since 2020, after being appointed by President Yoweri Museveni.

He also held accreditations for several other countries, including Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Palestine, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan.

Before his diplomatic roles, he had a background as a Muslim scholar and previously held the position of head of administration and planning at the Muslim Scholar’s Forum.
