Kampala, Uganda | NOW THEN DIGITAL — The Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramathan Mubajje, expressed deep sorrow at the passing of Al-Hajj Abdul Nsereko, a veteran radio broadcaster and city politician. The news of his demise was shared by Kampala Central MP, Muhammad Nsereko, who revealed that his father had succumbed to cardiac arrest.
In an official statement from the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council’s spokesperson, Mr. Ashiraf Zziwa, the Mufti highlighted Al-Hajj Nsereko’s dedicated service to Uganda, Kampala city, and Islam. The Mufti commended his significant contributions to the development of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council since its establishment in 1972.
Anita Annet Among, the Speaker of the Ugandan Parliament, also extended her condolences to MP Muhammad Nsereko and his family. In a brief message on X (formerly Twitter), she expressed sympathies and prayers, stating, “May the Almighty Allah grant you and your family strength during this difficult time.”
Leaders across the nation praised Al-Hajj Abdul Nsereko for his impactful service and unwavering commitment to his family and the people of Uganda. The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa, shared his condolences on his official X account, remembering Al-Hajj Nsereko’s mentoring role during their university days in politics.
Al-Hajj Abdul Nsereko’s extensive career included roles at Radio Uganda, Uganda Television (UTV), and Star TV, where he hosted various programs. He also served as the speaker at Kampala City Council. His passing is not only a loss to his loved ones but also a loss to the entire nation.
MP Nsereko announced that prayers for the deceased will be held at Kibuli Mosque at 9:00 am tomorrow, followed by his burial at 2:00 pm in Bulika, Nama sub-county, Mukono district. The nation mourns the departure of a respected figure who made a lasting impact on many lives. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
