Lagos, Nigeria | NOW THEN DIGITAL — Renowned Nollywood luminary, Amaechi Muonagor, has passed away at the age of 61, succumbing to an enduring struggle with kidney failure.

Morris Monye, a discerning social observer, conveyed his profound sorrow over Muonagor’s demise via his X account (formerly Twitter), lamenting the loss of a remarkable talent in the Nigerian film industry.

“Deeply heartbroken by the news of Amaechi Muonagor’s passing,” Monye articulated. “He was a talented Nollywood actor whose presence on our screens was truly masterful. We watched with concern as he battled health issues, offering whatever support we could to help him seek treatment in India.”

“This tragic loss highlights the need for better healthcare in our country.”

Muonagor’s demise transpired shortly after he implored the public for financial assistance to undergo a kidney transplant abroad. In a viral video, the actor, reclined on a hospital bed, was accompanied by his colleague Kingsley Orji, who fervently beseeched for support on his behalf.

His cinematic repertoire encompassed an array of acclaimed productions, including “Taboo 1” (1989), “Karishika” (1998), “Igodo” (1999), “Aki na Ukwa” (2002), “His Last Action” (2008), “Sincerity” (2009), and “Without Goodbye” (2009).
