Kampala youth get inked as MTN Pulse, Linus Tattoos launch new event

Dubbed the Linus Tatts Tattoo Party, the collaboration blends live tattooing, music and digital experiences, all in anticipation of the Amapiano Bash on 16 May at Kati Kati Grounds.

MTN Uganda’s youth-centric arm, MTN Pulse, has teamed up with Linus Tatts Tattoo Studio to bring a fresh twist to Kampala’s nightlife. Dubbed the Linus Tatts Tattoo Party, the collaboration blends live tattooing, music and digital experiences, all in anticipation of the Amapiano Bash on 16 May at Kati Kati Grounds.

Linus Studio, which first introduced tattoo parties in 2023, will offer MTN Pulse subscribers (“Pulsers”) half-price ink sessions. To redeem, users simply dial *175*4# or tap the MTN Pulse app—an incentive that organisers say underlines MTN’s drive to deliver “lifestyle experiences” far beyond data bundles.

At a launch event last week, Steven Nsubuga, MTN Uganda’s Segment Manager, described the partnership as “proof that youth engagement can be both creative and meaningful”. “Through MTN Pulse, we don’t just sell data,” he said. “We build platforms that let young Ugandans express themselves—whether that’s through music, fashion, technology or, tonight, the art of tattoo.”

As the Amapiano Bash approaches, anticipation is high for the South African-born genre’s debut festival in Kampala. Headliners LeeMcKrazy and Scott Maphuma are set to bring their high-energy grooves to the city’s urban crowd. Early-bird tickets are Shs 30,000 via MTN MoMo, rising to Shs 50,000 at the gate.

But the weekend’s attractions go beyond the dancefloor. For Shs 30,000, attendees can book walk-in tattoo slots, while free piercings and virtual-reality gaming pods promise something for every taste. Linus Tatts Tattoo Studio, located on Acacia Plot 1, Bukoto Street, will also showcase its mobile tattoo van at the grounds, bringing ink artistry directly to festival-goers.

Since hosting its inaugural tattoo parties in 2023, Linus Tatts has earned a reputation for bold designs and friendly service. In that same year, Now Then Digital named it among Kampala’s top tattoo shops—an accolade the studio’s founder says “validates our commitment to quality and safety”.

With ink, beats and immersive experiences all under one roof, MTN Pulse and Linus Tatts Tattoo Studio are betting that Kampala’s youth are ready to embrace a new kind of night out—one where self-expression is as vital as the music itself.
