KAMPALA, UGANDA | NOW THEN DIGITAL — Nigerian musicians Ayra Starr, Burna Boy, Tems and Tanzania’s Zuchu have been nominated for the 2022 MTV Europe Music Awards (MTV EMAs). The 2022 MTV EMAs will take place on Sunday, 13 November, 2022 in Düsseldorf, western Germany.
- This year’s MTV Europe Music Awards (MTV EMAs) will take place in Düsseldorf, western Germany on Sunday, 13 November, 2022. Nigerian artists Ayra Starr, Burna Boy and Tems as well as Tanzanian musician Zuchu are nominated.
- Over the past year, each of the African artists nominated for the 2022 MTV Europe Music Awards has achieved enormous success.
- The hit song “Bloody Samaritan” was remixed by Kelly Rowland, among Ayra Starr’s many music projects this year. Among Burna Boy’s many projects is his critically acclaimed album Love, Damini, which has been highly successful as well as his many concerts and international performances.
- Additionally, Tems has been hard at work as well. Her vocals appear alongside Drake on Future’s “Wait For You,” but her star power is equally apparent on her own single, “Free Mind.”
- A Tanzanian singer named Zuchu has been making a significant impact in the music industry. Zuchu is one of East Africa’s most successful female artists and her album Fire, released earlier this year, is proof of that.
- MTV EMA nominations come a few days after Burna Boy and Tems received their American Music Awards nominations. The EMAs will be held on November 13, 2022 in Düsseldorf, Germany, at the PSD Bank Dome.
There are several African nominees in the Best African Act category of the 2022 MTV EMAs, including Nigerian songwriter Ayra Starr, Ghanaian rapper Black Sherif, South African artist Musa Keys, and Tanzanian singer Zuchu.
The African artists who have been nominated for the 2022 MTV Europe Music Awards have all achieved great success in their own right over the past year.
In this year’s music lineup, Ayra Starr collaborated with Kelly Rowland on a remix of her hit song “Bloody Samaritan,” which went viral. In addition to a series of concerts and international performances, Burna Boy’s critically acclaimed album Love, Damini has been a big success too.
Tems has also been hard at work, appearing on Future’s “Wait For You” with Drake but her star power is also evident on the song “Free Mind,” which is also a track that showcases her impressive vocal abilities.
Ghana’s Black Sherif is making a name for himself as well. His unique sound was the foundation for his recent debut album, The Villain I Never Was, and his inclusion on YouTube’s Foundry Class of 2022 has only enhanced his profile.
The South African artist Musa Keys recently released the hit song, “Selema (Po Po),” a collaboration that explored the depths of Amapiano, and won the Song Of The Year at this year’s South African Music Awards.
In addition to her successful career on the music scene, Tanzania’s Zuchu has also been making a mark on the electronic music scene. Zuchu is one of the top female artists in East Africa, and her record “Fire,” which was released earlier this year, is proof of this.
The 2022 MTV EMA nominations came only days after Burna Boy and Tems were shortlisted for the 2022 American Music Awards. The MTV EMAs will be held on November 13, 2022, in Düsseldorf, Germany, at the PSD Bank Dome.
