Self-Styled Blogger Isma Olaxes, Also Known as Jaja Iculi, Shot Dead

Self-proclaimed blogger Ibrahim Tusubira, also known as Isma Olaxes or Jaja Iculi, has been killed in an attack by unknown gunmen in Kyanja, a Kampala suburb.

KAMPALA, UGANDA | NOW THEN DIGITAL — Ibrahim Tusubira, known online as Isma Olaxes or Jaja Iculi, has been killed in an attack by unknown gunmen in Kyanja, a suburb of the Ugandan capital, Kampala.

Jjajja Iculi has been shot dead
According to a source, Isma was shot dead near his home in Kyanja, sparking widespread shock and outrage.

Details of the killing are still unclear, and the motive is unknown at this time.

Investigative journalist and news anchor, Canary Mugume, was among the first to report on the shooting via Twitter, stating that Olaxes was “attacked by unknown gunmen in Kyanja who shot and killed him.”

Darren Allan Kyeyune, another Twitter user, confirmed the incident, adding that it occurred near the blogger’s home.

Controversial figure

Isma Olaxes was a controversial figure, known for his provocative social media posts and videos. One of his recent videos celebrated the death of Minister Charles Okello Engola, whom he accused of failing to protect his workers.

In the video, Olaxes claimed that Private Wilson Sabiiti, who was allegedly involved in the shooting, was mistreated by Engola. Olaxes also criticised the minister for his handling of the situation when UPDF personnel were caught on video battering Ugandans, alleging that Engola blamed West Africans for the incident.

Investigations ongoing

It remains unclear who was behind the killing, and investigations are ongoing. The police have yet to release a statement regarding the incident.

Police Statement

The Territorial Police at Kira Road is actively investigating a tragic shooting incident that occurred today at approximately 9:20 PM in Kyanja Central Zone. It is with deep regret that we report the unfortunate demise of Tusubilwa Ibrahim, also known as Isma Olaxes, popularly known as Jaja Ichili. The incident took place while Mr. Tusubilwa Ibrahim was traveling in his motor vehicle, registered under number UBK 213 D, with his driver, Mr. Waswa Mathias. Preliminary reports indicate that an unidentified gunman armed with an SMG opened fire on the vehicle, resulting in the fatal shooting of Tusubilwa Ibrahim, who was seated in the passenger seat at the time of the attack. Our dedicated task teams are currently on the ground, working diligently to gather all available evidence and conduct thorough investigations into this heinous crime. As a precautionary measure, the area has been cordoned off to ensure the safety of the public and to facilitate the ongoing investigation process. We assure the public that every effort is being made to bring the perpetrators to justice and provide answers to this senseless act of violence. We understand the concerns and anxieties arising from this incident . We urge residents to remain calm and cooperate with the authorities as we work towards resolving this case swiftly. We will continue to update the public with relevant information as soon as it becomes available. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of Tusubilwa Ibrahim during this difficult time.
