Kampala, Uganda | NOW THEN DIGITAL — The National Unity Platform (NUP) wants Masaka Municipality MP Mathias Mpuuga out of his role as a parliamentary commissioner after he admitted to receiving 500 million shillings. The party, led by Robert Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine, held a meeting to address corruption allegations against several NUP officials, including Mpuuga and others.

Allegations suggest that Mpuuga and fellow commissioners wrongly allocated hefty sums to themselves, claiming it was for service awards. Mpuuga admitted his involvement and apologized during the meeting. In response, NUP urged him to step down immediately, citing the party’s values of discipline, reliability, integrity, and service.

Meanwhile, an online protest under the hashtag #UgandaParliamentExhibition, spearheaded by Makerere Don Dr. Spire Ssentongo and activists, has rocked the internet for the past four days. It aims to expose corruption and mismanagement in Parliament, targeting Speaker Anita Among, Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa, NRM MPs, and opposition MPs.

Accusations include officials using their influence to secure jobs for relatives and engaging in corrupt practices for personal gain. Chris Obore, Parliament’s Director of Communication and Public Affairs, acknowledged the exhibition, stating that they are actively examining the concerns raised for transparency and accountability.

Parliament acknowledges concerns raised in the ongoing#UgandaParliamentExhibition on the institution.

Though the discussion is laden with distortions, in the spirit of openness, accountability and transparency, we are duty bound to study the specifics of all concerns (1/2)…
