British-Ghanaian Rapper Stormzy Signs a Worldwide Deal With WME

Michael Ebenezer Kwadjo Omari Owuo Jr, a British-Ghanaian rapper best known as Stormzy, has signed a representation agreement with global entertainment agency WME.

KAMPALA | NOW THEN DIGITAL — Known professionally as Stormzy, British-Ghanaian rapper Michael Ebenezer Kwadjo Omari Owuo Jr signed a representation agreement with global entertainment agency WME.

  • This deal, announced on 30 June, is a touring and brand partnership that comes days after #Merky founder Stormzy was awarded an honorary degree from the University of Exeter for his contributions to higher education, philanthropy and widening participation.
  • WME represents elite artists in every entertainment sector, including film, television, music, theatre, advertising, literature and digital media, and was founded after the merger of William Morris and Endeavor Talent Agency in 2009.
  • There are hundreds of big names represented by WME, including John Legend and Idris Elba.

The deal, which covers tours and brand partnerships, was announced on 30 June and comes days after #Merky founder Stormzy made headlines when he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Exeter for “outstanding achievements in higher education, philanthropy and widening participation.”

This comes days after the founder of #Merky received an honorary degree for his “outstanding achievement” in higher education, philanthropy, and widening participation.

The WME agency was formed in 2009 from the merger of the William Morris Agency and the original Endeavor Talent Agency. They represent elite artists in a variety of entertainment sectors, including film, TV, music, theatre, advertising, literature and digital media.

Furthermore, it advises top consumer brands and offers clients the latest marketing solutions across social media, mobile, and gaming.

Hundreds of other big names call WME home, including international stars like John Legend and Idris Elba.

Stormzy joins the WME agency from Primary Talent International where his representation will come from Lucy Dickins, Craig D’Souza and Whitney Boateng. Tobe Onwuka, who is Stormzy’s manager and #Merk co-founder, will continue to be a part of Stormzy’s management team.

The award-winning artist is behind the Gang Signs & Prayer (2017) and Heavy Is the Head (2019) albums. Stormzy is currently working on a third album.

Stormzy founded the #Merky Foundation which fights against racial inequality and advocates for justice reform and black empowerment, as well as #Merky Books, a subsidiary of Penguin Random House UK.

Stormzy first launched the Stormzy Scholarship for British black students in 2018, an initiative he said would serve as a reminder to young black students that the opportunity to study at one of the best universities in the world is theirs to grasp.
