Kampala, Uganda | NOW THEN DIGITAL — Former Uganda Railways Corporation Managing Director, Mr. Stanley Ssendegeya, facing charges of forging academic documents to secure a job, has been granted bail by the Buganda Road Magistrate’s Court. The bail, set at Shs1 million in cash, includes sureties bonded at Shs10 million, not in cash, with an additional requirement for Mr. Ssendegeya to deposit his passport in court.

Grade One Magistrate Siena Owomugisha, in her ruling, highlighted that Mr. Ssendegeya had presented substantial sureties, including his son, wife, and mother-in-law, who are well aware of their responsibilities. She emphasized that he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The 54-year-old former managing director faces charges of forgery and uttering false documents, which he denies. Prosecution alleges that in July 2020, Mr. Ssendegeya forged a curriculum vitae, falsely claiming to hold a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. Additionally, he is accused of providing false information to the recruitment firm Deloitte Uganda Ltd.
