Dokolo, Uganda | NOW THEN DIGITAL — Cecilia Barbara Atim Ogwal, the Woman MP for Dokolo District, has passed away. Known as the iron lady, she played a vital role in legislation and was outspoken in the constituency assembly, breaking gender barriers in Parliament.

Born in 1946 to Opio Boniface (RIP) and Rosemary Apio, she was the second of 14 siblings. Married to Lamech Ogwal, she had seven biological children and adopted several others.

Ogwal was among the first four girls to study Commerce in East Africa. Her political journey began at the age of 12, and she attended Sacred Heart in Gulu, later studying at Gayaza High School. Graduating from Nairobi University with a Bachelor of Commerce in Management and International Trade, she pursued various management roles.

In 1980, she transitioned to full-time politics, resigning from her management position to serve as assistant secretary general at a UPC delegate’s conference.
