NAIROBI, KENYA | NOW THEN DIGITAL — On Monday evening, Ezra Chiloba, the Director General of the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA), was suspended. The specific reason for this suspension remains undisclosed.
Christopher Wambua Appointed Acting Director General
In response to Chiloba’s suspension, the Authority’s board chair, Mary Mungai, issued a statement announcing that Christopher Wambua would assume the role of Acting Director General.
This appointment was made following a board meeting held on 18th September 2023.
Mungai’s statement read, “Following a meeting of the Authority’s Board held on 18th September 2023, resulting in the suspension of the Director General, I am pleased to inform all staff of the appointment of Mr Christopher Wambua as a Director General in Acting Capacity effective today until further notice. I trust that you will accord him the necessary support.”
Chiloba’s Background and Previous Roles
Ezra Chiloba commenced his tenure at CA in September 2021, taking on a four-year renewable term, succeeding the late Francis Wangusi whose term ended in August 2019. Prior to joining CA, Chiloba held the position of principal partner at Chil and Kemp Strategies Ltd, a Strategy Management Company.
In this role, he focused on strategy and risk management, policy and regulatory analysis, as well as leadership and management effectiveness.
Furthermore, Chiloba served as the chief executive officer/commission secretary of Kenya’s electoral body, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, from 2015 to 2018.
