During the event, Cheptegei recorded a time of 27:51.42, making him the fourth man ever to claim three consecutive 10,000m world titles. He holds records in the 10,000m and 5000m races, with previous gold wins in the 2022 Oregon race and the 2019 Doha event.

In his congratulatory message, Ochola celebrated Cheptegei’s accomplishment as a police officer. Ochola stated that the sky is not even the limit for Cheptegei’s achievements.

“I wish to congratulate ASP Joshua Cheptegei on his landmark victory which is also a unique and historic accomplishment in the 10.000m final at the 19th World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary,” he said.

He emphasized that the Uganda Police Force takes immense pride in Cheptegei’s achievements, which set a world record and reflect positively on both the police and the nation. Ochola also expressed anticipation for ASP Cheptegei’s future successes in upcoming races.

“As the Uganda Police Force, we are incredibly proud of him, for earning himself, the Police and the country a world record. We are looking forward for another successful sprint by ASP Cheptegei in the forthcoming race.”, Ochola added.

Cheptegei’s outstanding performance at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics earned him a promotion to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police in 2021, a testament to his athletic prowess recognized by the police leadership.
