Kisoro, Uganda | NOW THEN DIGITAL — Former Inspector General of Police, Gen (Rtd) Kale Kayihura, announced that he will not pursue elective politics but will focus on farming after retiring from the army. He shared this decision at a homecoming event in Kisoro Municipality, organized to celebrate his retirement from the army.

Speculations had circulated that Gen Kayihura might seek the Bufumbira East parliamentary seat in Kisoro District. However, he dismissed these rumors, expressing his apprehension about elective politics at any level, even at the LC1 post.

“I am not interested in elective politics as some people had started speculating that I was eyeing the Bufumbira East parliamentary seat in Kisoro District,” Kayihura said.

He added: ”I fear elective politics; even if it is an LC1 post, I fear it. I have a lot of things to do in my retirement, especially things to do with farming,”.

Gen Kayihura retired from the army following his acquittal of criminal cases related to illegal repatriation of Rwandan refugees and failure to protect war materials in the court martial. He emphasized that the cases against him were fabricated, a sentiment echoed during the weekend event.

He appreciated President Museveni’s thorough investigations that revealed the truth and vindicated him. Gen Kayihura stressed that he was not pardoned but rather cleared of any wrongdoing.
