Kendrick Lamar’s visit to South Africa in the past served as inspiration for his jazz-flavored third studio album, “To Pimp a Butterfly,” which achieved critical acclaim and reached number one on the Billboard 200 chart.

Lamar, who started his career performing as K Dot, quickly gained attention in his hometown of Compton, California, leading to his signing with Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) in 2005.

Regarded as one of the most influential hip hop artists of his generation, Lamar is known for his progressive musical styles and socially conscious songwriting. His remix of Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood” topped the Billboard Hot 100 in the same year.
