President Museveni has picked Hajjat Sharifah Buzeki as the new Executive Director for Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA). She’s stepping into a role previously held by Jennifer Musisi and Dorothy Kisaka, making her the third woman to officially lead KCCA.

Buzeki has been serving as the Commissioner of Human Resource Management at the Ministry of Public Service. She’s now taking over after a mix of acting leaders—Andrew Kitaka and Frank Rusa—held the fort between Musisi and Kisaka’s tenures.

The President didn’t stop there; he also appointed Benon Kigenyi as the new deputy executive director for KCCA. The Deputy Presidential Press Secretary, Faruk Kirunda, confirmed the news on X (formerly Twitter), saying their names have been forwarded to Public Service for final approval. Once that’s done, the appointments will be formalised.

Buzeki has an impressive resume. She holds a Master’s in Public Administration and Management, a Post-Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management, and a Bachelor’s in Social Sciences, all from Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU). She’s also taken courses in conflict management, leadership, monitoring and evaluation, and facilitation skills, just to name a few.

Her appointment follows a competitive selection process by the Public Service Commission (PSC). She was the only woman on the shortlist and beat candidates like Sydney Asubo, an anti-financial crime expert, and Gabriel Richard Atama, a former Chief Administrative Officer for Tororo.

These roles opened up after the President dismissed Kisaka and her deputy, David Luyimbazi, over their handling of the Kiteezi landfill collapse in August 2024, which sadly led to over 30 deaths. Both Kisaka and Luyimbazi are still facing charges connected to that tragedy.
