Rev. Prof. John Kitayimbwa Appointed as Chairperson of Research and Education Network Uganda

The Rev. Associate Professor John Kitayimbwa, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Academic Affairs at Uganda Christian University, has been appointed as the Chairperson of Research and Education Network Uganda (RENU).

KAMPALA, UGANDA | NOW THEN DIGITAL — Rev. Associate Professor John Kitayimbwa, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Academic Affairs at Uganda Christian University, has been appointed as the Chairperson of Research and Education Network Uganda (RENU).

This significant appointment was made during RENU’s recent Board strategic planning retreat.

Deputy Chairperson Prof. Janice Busingye

Prof. Kitayimbwa will be supported by Prof. Janice Busingye from Kampala International University, who will serve as the Deputy Chairperson of RENU. Prof. Busingye brings her expertise as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Finance and Administration, as well as the University Secretary at Kampala International University.

Successor to Eng Dr. Dorothy Okello

Rev. Prof. Kitayimbwa takes over the position from Eng Dr. Dorothy Okello, whose tenure as chairperson ended at the 14th Annual General Meeting held in April 2023. This change in leadership marks an important transition for RENU.

RENU: Empowering Education and Research

RENU, Uganda’s National Research and Education Network, is a member-based organization that was established in 2006 and incorporated in 2008 as a not-for-profit organization. Its mission is to enhance the quality of education and research in Uganda by providing reliable and affordable connectivity and ICT solutions tailored for education and research purposes.

His extensive experience includes serving as a Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Uganda Christian University, Deputy Chairperson of RENU’s Board of Directors, Chairperson of RENU’s Finance, Administration and Human Resource Committee, Head of Computing and Technology, and Senior Lecturer in Computational Biology.

Prof. Busingye’s Accomplishments

Prof. Janice Busingye, a passionate and experienced educator, is an Associate Professor of Education and a Senior Lecturer at Kampala International University. She previously served as the Head of the Department of Adult and Community Education at Makerere University.

With 20 years of experience in higher education, she has contributed to various journals with articles focusing on the politics of knowledge sharing, higher education, primary education, and community engagement.

Prof. Busingye holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Adult and Community Education from Makerere University.

She obtained her Master’s and PhD in Education from the University of KwaZulu Natal in South Africa, further enhancing her expertise in the field.

As Rev. Prof. John Kitayimbwa and Prof. Janice Busingye assume their respective roles at RENU, their collective experience and dedication to education and research will undoubtedly contribute to the organization’s continued growth and impact.
