SuperSport, the sports arm of CANAL+ subsidiary MultiChoice, has secured broadcast rights for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), set to be hosted in Morocco later this year.

The deal, announced on 6 November, gives SuperSport exclusive rights to air the tournament across English and Portuguese-speaking parts of Sub-Saharan Africa. It also means CANAL+ will deliver the matches in French and several local languages — making it the first global broadcaster to air AFCON in four languages simultaneously.

When the 35th edition of the competition kicks off on 21 December 2025, fans across the continent will have access to what CANAL+ calls “the most comprehensive football viewing experience” ever offered for Africa’s biggest sporting event.

David Mignot, the CEO of CANAL+ Africa, said the partnership with MultiChoice was already proving its value.

“Our newly-formed merger with the MultiChoice Group has already unlocked opportunities and benefits for our customers,” he said. “This year’s TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 is a great demonstration of the power and potential of this common ambition — bringing together our expertise to offer unprecedented coverage.”

He added that offering broadcasts in multiple languages would “build closeness with our viewers” and make fans feel part of “the most spectacular celebration of African football.”

CAF President Patrice Motsepe welcomed the agreement, calling it a major moment for African football.

“This is an exciting day for CAF and for African football,” he said. “When the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations takes place in Morocco in December, Africans everywhere — on the continent and across the diaspora — will be watching with pride.”

Dr Motsepe added that the last edition in Côte d’Ivoire drew around 1.5 billion viewers globally and expressed confidence that Morocco 2025 would reach even greater heights.

“When 180 nations express interest in broadcasting AFCON, it is proof that the world is excited about African football,” he said.

Rendani Ramovha, MultiChoice’s Director of Sport Content for English and Portuguese-speaking Africa, described the moment as a source of pride.

“We are especially proud to be able to bring the story of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025, live to all our viewers in English and Portuguese-speaking Sub-Saharan African territories,” he said.

“SuperSport has been the preferred choice for millions of passionate fans across the continent, and this tournament won’t be different, as we will have a dedicated SuperSport AFCON channel.”

He added that being part of the CANAL+ Group would allow them to elevate coverage even further. “People can expect more compelling viewing, brought to them in a language of their choice. It is truly poised to be a celebration of African glory.”

Viewers will be able to follow SuperSport’s broadcasts on DStv and GOtv, while CANAL+ subscribers can tune in on CANAL+ Sport and stream via the CANAL+ app.

Commentary and analysis will be available in several languages, including English, Portuguese, French, Swahili, and local dialects such as isiZulu and Setswana in South Africa, and Pidgin English in Nigeria.

Both CANAL+ and SuperSport say coverage will feature a mix of star commentators, analysts, presenters, and African football legends, as the continent counts down to its biggest football showpiece in Morocco.
