A greater number of candidates who took the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) in 2022 qualified for university education than those who took the same examination in 2020.

KAMPALA, UGANDA | NOW THEN DIGITAL — Compared to their colleagues who took similar examinations in 2020, a greater number of candidates who took the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) in 2022 have qualified to enter university education.

  • The results for the 2022 Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education Examination (UACE) were released on Friday, March 03, 2023.
  • The examinations were taken by 96,557 candidates, of which 40,219 were females and 56,023 were males.
  • The girls have beaten their male counterparts for four consecutive years. At least 67,815 candidates who sat the UACE in 2022 qualified to join the university this year.
  • To access the UACE results, type UACE followed by the correct index number of the candidate.

The Executive Director of Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB), Daniel Odongo, announced the results at the Office of the President, stating that 97,890 candidates registered for the examinations, but that 96,557 candidates attended.

Odongo reported that 95,787 (99.2%) students were eligible to receive the UACE award this year.

The results show that 41,974 students have achieved three principal passes, 25,841 have achieved two principal passes, 19,382 have achieved one principal pass, and 9,590 have received one subsidiary pass. Furthermore, 770 candidates have not been graded after achieving failures (F).

However, only 68,815 of the 95,787 candidates who qualify for the award of UACE certificates are eligible to enter universities after scoring two principal passes, which are a minimum requirement.

“At the minimum two principal level required for university admission, 67,815 (70.3%) qualify compared to 69.8% in 2020,” said Daniel Odongo, executive director of the Uganda National Examinations Board (Uneb).

For admission to other tertiary institutions, Odongo says 86,197 candidates will qualify if one principal pass and two subsidiary passes are considered. Statistics indicate that 70.3 percent of candidates qualify to study at universities. In 2020, 69.8% qualified.

“In cases where one principal and two subsidiary pass levels are considered for admission to other tertiary institutions, 89.3% of the candidates will qualify,” said Mr Odongo.
