Uganda Removes Visa Fees for South Sudan Students

This means South Sudanese students coming to study in Uganda no longer have to pay for student visas.

Uganda is now waiving visa fees for South Sudanese students, thanks to South Sudan’s full membership in the East African Community.

KAMPALA, UGANDA | NOW THEN DIGITAL — Uganda has removed visa fees for South Sudanese students wishing to study in the country, in line with South Sudan’s full membership in the East African Community.

Uganda Waives Visa Fees for South Sudanese Students

South Sudanese students no longer need to pay for student visas when coming to study in Uganda.

“Government has therefore waived visa fees for South Sudan students coming to study in Uganda will from now not have to pay for student visas,” Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Simon Mundeyi said.

Reciprocally, Ugandan students heading to South Sudan also do not need to pay for visas, aligning with other East African Community countries like Rwanda, Kenya, and Tanzania.

East African Community member nations do not require visas for citizens of fellow member countries.

Certain members of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) have implemented a 90-day visa-free travel policy and visa on arrival access.

Several COMESA nations, including Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Rwanda, Swaziland, Seychelles, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, offer 90-day visas on arrival for COMESA nationals. Mauritius, Rwanda, and Seychelles offer visa waivers for all COMESA nationals, while Zambia provides a visa waiver for official business travelers.

Notably, COMESA member states like Egypt, Libya, Ethiopia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan, and Eritrea do not currently offer any travel exemptions or relaxed visa options.
