The American Music Awards have been rewarding top achievements by musicians and albums for quite some time now, and this year’s awards show marks their 50th anniversary.
Afrobeats artist Burna Boy as well as other Nigerians have been nominated in the newly-introduced Favourite Afrobeats Artist category of the 2022 American Music Awards, which recognizes the genre’s groundbreaking impact in the US and globally.
With her award-winning contribution to Wizkid’s global hit ‘Essence’, Tems leads the African contingent among the nominees for the 2022 American Music Awards. In addition to Collaboration of the Year, she received nominations in two other categories, namely Favorite Hip-Hop Song and Favorite R&B Song.
Then Nigeria’s forever golden boy Wizkid managed to be nominated in two categories at the 2022 American Music Awards, including Favorite R&B Song.
Among the most-nominated artists this year’s American Music Awards are Latin artist Bad Bunny with eight nominations, followed by US singers Beyoncé and Taylor Swift with six nominations each.
A total of five nominations have been received by English pop stars Adele and Harry Styles, as well as Canadian singer The Weeknd. The 2022 American Music Awards (AMAs) will be televised internationally in more than 120 countries.
