2022 Northern Uganda Music Awards: Polite Mosko, Jeneth Prischa Take Home Big Awards

The nominees for the 2022 Northern Uganda Music Awards were selected through regular radio calling programs on all radio stations in the region, and the selection committee confirmed their selections.

The MTN-sponsored 2022 Northern Uganda Music Awards (NUMA) held at Pece Stadium in Gulu City yesterday evening crowned musician Okello Moses known as Polite Mosko as the Northern Uganda Artist of the year.

KAMPALA, UGANDA | NOW THEN DIGITAL — At the MTN-sponsored 2022 Northern Uganda Music Awards (NUMA) held yesterday evening at Pece Stadium in Gulu City, musician Okello Moses, who is known as Polite Mosko, was named artist of the year in Northern Uganda.

  • At the 2022 Northern Uganda Music Awards (NUMA), which were held yesterday evening at Pece Stadium in Gulu City, musician Okello Moses better known as Polite Mosko won the Northern Uganda Artist of the Year award.
  • With the support of MTN Uganda, 25 artistes walked away with awards and prizes, including a record deal with Uganda’s top producers.
  • A total of four artists were awarded music recording deals at the Northern Uganda Music Awards (NUMA) 2022, including Polite Mosko, who won overall artistry, Eddy Wizzy, who won male artistry, Jeneth Prischa, who won female artistry, and Mixola as new artist of the year.

MTN Uganda, the country’s biggest music sponsor, supported the NUMA Awards 2022, reflecting its commitment to creating shared value for its communities.

In the Northern region, the NUMA awards are one of the biggest and oldest annual music events, which aims to celebrate, reward, and encourage both established and upcoming musicians, while inspiring change through their powerful voices through the power of music.

The Northern Uganda Music Awards 2022 ceremony featured a variety of performances from traditional dance acts, hip-hop, reggae, gospel and dance hall performers.

The night ended with 25 artistes walking away with awards and prizes, including a record deal with the best producers in Uganda across the top four categories, courtesy of MTN Uganda.

Polite Mosko, the overall artist of the year of the Northern Uganda Music Awards (NUMA), Eddy Wizzy, the male artist of the year, Jeneth Prischa, the female artist of the year, and Mixola, the new artist of the year, won music recording deals.

A number of prominent guests attended the NUMA award ceremony, including NRM General Secretary, Richard Todwong, Gulu City Woman MP, Betty Aol Ocan, and Acholi Paramount Chief Rwot David Onen Acana II.

Founder of the Northern Uganda Music Awards (NUMA), Juma Muhammed Okot, thanked MTN for supporting music talent in Northern Uganda.

“The NUMA event remains the oldest and best musical event in the region. We are indeed happy to have MTN walk this journey with us by supporting us with not only organizing the awards but also offering recording deals to our stars. We look forward to working with MTN to further nurture and promote the immense music talent in Northern Uganda,” he said.

The MTN Uganda Northern Region Business Manager, Aggrey Byaruhanga, commented on the awards by stating that MTN has provided strong support to Ugandan musicians over the years and commits to continue doing so in order to reward and nurture music talent in the country.

”On behalf of MTN Uganda, we congratulate all the winners of NUMA. MTN is happy to celebrate the great music and entertainment talent in our country. As promised, the top 4 winners will record their next songs with the country’s top producers of their choice, courtesy of MTN,” Byaruhanga said.

NUMA awards coordinator Patrick Ssebadduka reports that registrations began on Thursday, 08th December 2022 with artists picking up registration forms from different radio stations in Northern Uganda as well as online registrations.

Nominees for the 2022 Northern Uganda Music Awards were chosen through a regular radio calling program across all radio stations in the region, and they were then confirmed by the final selection committee.

The selected songs were then assessed by renowned music critics based on impact, technical quality, uniqueness, and style in the respective categories.
