Kampala, Uganda | NOW THEN DIGITAL — Sad news hit the Ugandan entertainment scene on Thursday night as Moses Kawooya, a key figure in the Ssanyu African Music and Dramatic Society (SAMADS), passed away at the age of 65. His battle with illness throughout the year ultimately took its toll.

Kawooya was widely known for his captivating dance moves, particularly his skillful use of belly movements that never failed to energize the crowds at events. Many recognized him from his appearances in Ragga Dee’s music videos. His popularity soared as he became a regular performer at President Museveni’s functions, endearing him to the local audience and ensuring his enduring legacy.

The late entertainer faced challenges when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, leading to a prolonged lockdown that disrupted his taxi business. Struggling financially, he couldn’t afford to fix his vehicle, compounding the difficulties brought on by the pandemic.

In a recent interview with New Vision, Kawooya revealed the onset of his health troubles. A toothache marked the beginning, and subsequent dental treatment possibly worsened his condition. The removal of a tooth triggered intense pain in his left jaw, which eventually spread to his head. Paralysis on the left side of his head left him unable to manage daily tasks, coupled with swelling on his neck, adding to his ordeal.

Desperate for medical assistance, Kawooya reached out to well-wishers and even sought help from President Museveni, but his pleas went unanswered, leaving him to face his health challenges alone.
