Butambala, Uganda | NOW THEN DIGITAL — In a final send-off prayer organized by the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party for Adam Mulwana, a renowned singer and activist, politicians from various backgrounds gathered at the Katonga Road offices in Kampala on Wednesday morning to pray for his soul. Mulwana, aged 36, gained fame in 2016 with a Swahili song titled “Toka kwa Barabara,” endorsing FDC party president Col Dr Kiiza Besigye as a strong challenger against President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

Mulwana passed away on Tuesday, February 13, at 4:00 am at Doctors’ Hospital in Seguku after battling a bone marrow biopsy condition for three years. Dr. Besigye, a close associate and chief mourner, revealed that Mulwana had been receiving treatment at Mulago Cancer Institute.

Besigye hailed Mulwana as a symbol of hope and revolution, expressing regret that Mulwana, like many Ugandans, lacked adequate education and healthcare due to the country’s ailing systems. He emphasized Mulwana’s impact through his campaign song, urging renewed energy in liberating Uganda.

Besigye condemned politicians exploiting the sick and deceased for personal gain. He called for legislation preventing the posting of pictures with ill individuals on social media. Opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi expressed sorrow on X (formerly Twitter), praising Mulwana’s dedication to Uganda’s freedom.

Minister Haruna Kasolo, despite being in the NRM party, acknowledged Mulwana’s patriotism and assistance during his 2021 councilor campaign. MP Betty Nambooze Bakireke commended Mulwana’s fearless fight for democratic change, and Mayor Lukwago extended sympathy to Mulwana’s family.
