Ugandan musician turned U.S.-based medical doctor, Amos Kigenyi—better known as Gen. Mega Dee—has announced that he’s calling it quits on music by the end of this year.

In a recent chat on social media, Mega Dee said he’s stepping away from recording and performing to focus fully on his career in healthcare, which has become his main hustle in the U.S.

“I’m retiring from music this year,” he said, “and I just want to thank my fans in Uganda and abroad for sticking with me all these years.”

His final show happened on May 17, 2025, in Canada, where he performed alongside fellow veteran Emperor Orlando, who’s also now based in Canada working as a promoter and events guy. According to Mega Dee, that was his last time on stage as an artist.

“That was my final concert as an artist,” he said of the show.

Mega Dee first came onto the scene in the early 2000s alongside Menton Kronno, and the two quickly made a name for themselves with hits that got a lot of love across Uganda. Eventually, both artists moved to the U.S., where life took them in totally different directions.

These days, Mega Dee is a full-time medical professional. In 2021, he graduated with a degree in healthcare management from California Intercontinental University. Before that, he had already earned a degree in Urban Planning from Makerere University. His longtime friend and collaborator, Menton Kronno, also holds a law degree from Makerere and now lives in the U.S. as well.

It’s clear that Mega Dee’s passion for helping people has taken center stage in his life now. And while he may be stepping away from the mic, his journey—from stage lights to hospital scrubs—is one that shows just how much a person can grow and evolve over time.
