What is the Bayimba Foundation?

The Bayimba Foundation is a multi-branched organization with the mission of celebrating creativity, art and cultural exchange in Uganda. Its annual Bayimba International Festival of the Arts is one of the country’s premier arts events.

Since its establishment in 2008, the festival has been a revolutionary platform for Ugandan artists and has become one of the most popular and widely attended arts events in the country.

In addition to organizing the festival, the foundation also focuses on arts management and education, with its Bayimba Academy, which offers courses for visual/performing artists and music sound engineers. Creative writing, film and video are some of the other arts that are featured during the Bayimba Festival.

During the festival, visitors will be able to see live performances by artists from all over the world. In addition, there are workshops for children and performances by local artists. The festival also includes games and exhibitions, and camping in the natural landscape.

Every year, the Bayimba International Festival of the Arts is held on Lunkulu Island in the Buikwe district.

He has organized and managed many art festivals and training programs in the country, and has created numerous platforms that celebrate the arts.

In addition to creating platforms to celebrate the arts, Faisal KIWEWA has established himself as a household name among artists, arts professionals, and community members in Uganda and East Africa.

Among his most notable achievements is the creation of the Tebere Arts Foundation and his involvement in Bayimba International Festival of the Arts.

Aside from establishing the festival, he also introduced the regional forum DOADOA, the East African Performing Arts Market, which is now in its ninth edition.

He also revived the Amakula International Film Festival. Moreover, his work has led him to participate in many festivals across the continent.

“In the wake of the pandemic, many activities were turned upside down and many activities were put on hold,” said Faisal Kiwewa, the festival’s organizer.

“Thankfully, we made it through and now we are happy to bring you another exciting edition of the Bayimba Festival of the Arts.”

“Our goal for this year’s festival of art is to stand together and rebuild our artists’ community as we cope with the devastating effects of the pandemic. Our programme this year is focused on igniting trust, and embracing our ecological surroundings to understand who we are,” Kiwewa explained.
