The brutal killing of Ibrahim Tusubira, popularly known as Isma Olaxess, has drawn condemnation from the Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, who has called on the police to bring the perpetrators to justice.
KAMPALA, UGANDA | NOW THEN DIGITAL — The Speaker of Uganda’s Parliament, Anita Among, has condemned the killing of renowned blogger Ibrahim Tusubira, alias Isma Olaxess, who was shot and killed near his home in Kyanja, a Kampala suburb, on Saturday night.
Ms. Among took to Twitter to express her condolences to Tusubira’s family, friends, and the Uganda Bloggers Association while also calling on the police to bring the culprits to book. Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa also mourned the loss and urged that the killers be brought to justice.
Tusubira was the chairperson of the Uganda Bloggers Association, a community made up of social, economic, political, religious commentators, content creators, influencers, and subjective writers across various platforms.
Condemnation from the Speaker of Parliament
In a tweet, Speaker of Parliament Anita Among condemned the killing and called for the perpetrators to be brought to book.
She also offered her condolences to Olaxess’s family, friends, and the Uganda Bloggers Association. “I condemn in the strongest terms the barbaric act of taking human life in cold blood. Such actions have no place in our Nation and must not be tolerated. Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. May Allah forgive you all your shortcomings and grant you Jannah. My sincere condolences to his family, friends and the Uganda bloggers Association in this trying moment,” Ms Among tweeted in the wee hours of Sunday morning.

The Deputy Speaker, Thomas Tayebwa, also mourned the fallen blogger on Twitter, praying for his killers to be hunted down and brought to justice.

Outpouring of grief from public figures
Public figures, including NBS TV presenter Douglas Lwanga, singer Ykee Benda, and Eddy Kenzo, have taken to social media to mourn the fallen blogger. “Rest in peace bro. Oh God, this is scary. RIP Jaja Ichuli,” Lwanga posted.
Ykee Benda posted saying death is for everyone and people should know that it is the way.
He tweeted: “Fena ekubo lyelimu….til we meet again champion. My condolences to your friends and family, you surely made your mark brother.”
Police investigations ongoing
Preliminary police investigations indicate that an unidentified gunman with an SMG opened fire on Tusubira’s vehicle, resulting in his death. Detectives and scene of crime officers are on the ground working diligently to gather all available evidence and conduct thorough investigations into the shooting.
As a precautionary measure, the area has been cordoned off to ensure the safety of the public and to facilitate the ongoing investigation process. The police assure the public that every effort is being made to bring the perpetrators to justice and provide answers to this senseless act of violence.
Recent Tragedy
Tusubira’s death comes just days after State Minister for Labor, Employment, and Industrial Relations, Col (Rtd) Charles Okello Engola, was shot and killed by his bodyguard, Pte Wilson Sabiiti, also a resident of Kyanja, on May 2.
The incident underscores the need for enhanced security measures in the area to prevent further tragedies.
