CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA | NOW THEN DIGITAL — Angus Cloud, the 25-year-old actor renowned for his portrayal of the drug dealer Fezco “Fez” O’Neill in HBO’s “Euphoria,” passed away on Monday in Oakland, Calif.
The Oakland Fire Department responded to a medical emergency around 11:30 a.m., but Angus was already deceased. The cause of death remains unknown, and the Oakland Police Department is conducting an active death investigation.
Angus Cloud’s family issued a heartfelt statement, remembering him as an extraordinary individual. Last week, Angus had to cope with the loss of his father, whom he considered his closest confidant.
“It is with the heaviest heart that we had to say goodbye to an incredible human today,” Cloud’s family said in a statement.
“As an artist, a friend, a brother and a son, Angus was special to all of us in so many ways. Last week he buried his father and intensely struggled with this loss. The only comfort we have is knowing Angus is now reunited with his dad, who was his best friend. Angus was open about his battle with mental health and we hope that his passing can be a reminder to others that they are not alone and should not fight this on their own in silence.”
The family revealed Angus’ openness about his mental health struggles, hoping that his passing will serve as a reminder to others that they are not alone in their battles and should seek help and support.
Cloud gained prominence for his role as Fez in HBO’s acclaimed teen drama “Euphoria,” a show that won Emmy awards. He was a significant character in the series’ first two seasons and also appeared in films such as “North Hollywood” (2021) and “The Line” (2023).
Recently, Angus Cloud was cast alongside Melissa Berrera in a horror movie by Universal Pictures, directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. He also starred in several music videos, including Noah Cyrus’ “All Three,” Juice WRLD’s “Cigarettes,” and Becky G and Karol G’s “Miamiii.”
Angus was honored at Variety’s Power of Young Hollywood event last year, where he shared his journey from being randomly discovered on the streets to becoming a part of “Euphoria.” He emphasized that acting is not as simple as it may seem and that he brought a lot of depth to his character, Fez.
On “Euphoria,” Cloud became a fan favorite, and HBO expressed profound sadness over his passing, acknowledging him as an immensely talented and beloved member of the “Euphoria” and HBO family.
Angus Cloud attended the Oakland School of the Arts with his “Euphoria” co-star Zendaya and landed the role in the series while working at a Brooklyn restaurant.
