San Pédro, Ivory Coast | NOW THEN DIGITAL — Congo eliminated Egypt from the Africa Cup of Nations, winning 8-7 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in the round-of-16 match. Gabaski, standing in for the injured El Shenawy, hit the crossbar, allowing Mpasi to secure the Leopards’ quarterfinal spot.

Egypt faced challenges, losing Salah to injury and El Shenawy to a dislocated shoulder. Despite sacrificing a cow for luck, Congo took the lead with Elia’s goal, countered by Mohamed’s penalty. Extra time ensued as both teams struggled for a win.

Egypt ended with 10 players after Hamdy’s red card. In the shootout, Masuaku missed for Congo, but Abou Gabal’s crucial miss sealed their fate. Congo advances to face Guinea in the next round.
