The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) grieves the passing of Alice Nabugembe Oguttu, the wife of veteran member Philip Wafula Oguttu, who reportedly died on Saturday.
KAMPALA, UGANDA | NOW THEN DIGITAL — Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) is grieving the death of Alice Nabugembe Oguttu, the wife of veteran member Philip Wafula Oguttu.
Alice Nabugembe Oguttu passed away on Saturday, leading to a somber atmosphere within the party.
Condolences Extended to the Family
The FDC party expressed its condolences to Wafula Oguttu and his entire family during this difficult time.
In a statement, the party acknowledged the passing of Alice Oguttu, who was the beloved wife of Rt. Hon. Wafula Oguttu, the former Leader of the Opposition in the Parliament of Uganda and MP emeritus for Bukooli Central, Bugiri District.

Funeral Arrangements
According to officials from FDC, on Sunday evening, Alice’s body was taken to their residence at Martyr’s Way, Ntinda, for a church service and overnight vigil. The funeral proceedings will continue as follows:
- Monday: A church service will be held at St. Luke C.O.U in Ntinda, followed by the departure of the funeral procession to Saanika village, located in Nankoma sub-county, Bugiri District.
- Wednesday: Vigil at home in Ntinda at 5:30 pm.
- Thursday: Requiem service at St. Luke Church of Uganda in Ntinda at 10:00 am. After the church service, the body will be taken to Bugiri District at 2:00 pm.
- Saturday: Burial ceremony in Sanika Village, Nsono Parish, Nankoma sub-county, Bugiri District, starting at 10:00 am.
Who is Phillip Wafula Oguttu: A Journalist and Politician?
Phillip Wafula Oguttu is a renowned journalist and politician. He served as the Leader of Opposition in the Parliament from January 31, 2014, to June 2016, succeeding Nandala Mafabi and passing the position to Winnie Kiiza.
In his political career, Oguttu ran for parliamentary elections in 2006 and 2011 as a member of FDC, representing the constituency of Bukhooli Country Central. He lost in 2006 but emerged victorious in 2011 by defeating NRM candidate Hajji Siraji Lyavala.
However, in the 2016 general election, Oguttu was unable to retain the seat, losing to the NRM’s Solomon Silwany. He previously held the role of Member of Parliament (MP) for Bukhooli County Central from 2011 to 2016, representing Bugiri District in the Busoga Sub-region of the Eastern Region of Uganda.
