Kampala, Uganda | NOW THEN DIGITAL — A solemn atmosphere engulfed the House on Monday as Speaker Anita Among and legislators received the late Cecilia Barbra Atim Ogwal, former Woman MP for Dokolo District. Ogwal, who passed away in India on January 18 at 77, was undergoing cancer treatment. The A-Plus Funeral Management team, accompanied by Ogwal’s family, brought her casket to the South Wing Central lobby at 9 am, prompting tears from some lawmakers and staff.
In a brief ceremony, the casket was opened for viewing, accompanied by the sprinkling of flower petals as a final tribute. The condolence book signing and viewing will continue until mid-day. Later, the casket will be moved to the House chambers for a Special sitting where MPs will pay their respects. Following the tribute, Ogwal’s body will lie in State overnight at the House before a funeral service at All Saints Cathedral, Kampala, on Tuesday at 9 am.
