Former Makindye West lawmaker Hussein Kyanjo has tragically passed away at Kibuli Hospital, as confirmed by Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Uganda and Bukedea District Woman MP, Anita Among.

KAMPALA, UGANDA | NOW THEN DIGITAL — The Republic of Uganda is mourning the loss of former Makindye West lawmaker, Hussein Kyanjo, who passed away on Saturday, July 22, 2023. The news of his demise was confirmed by Anita Among, the respected Speaker of the Parliament and Bukedea District Woman MP.

A Strong Voice in Opposition

Hussein Kyanjo was a prominent and outspoken politician affiliated with the opposition Justice Forum (JEEMA) party. His strong voice and unwavering stance on political matters made him a significant figure within Uganda’s political landscape.

Battling Illness and Leaving a Legacy

The late lawmaker’s passing occurred at Kibuli Hospital in Kampala, reportedly around 10 am.

While official confirmation of the cause of death is yet to be released by family and close associates, it is known that Kyanjo had been courageously battling cancer for an undisclosed period.

Despite his health challenges, he continued to actively participate in political matters and was highly regarded by his peers.

In a heartfelt message, JEEMA, the party with which Kyanjo was associated, tweeted, “We are incredibly saddened to announce the death of one of our party founder members and Secretary General emeritus, also former Member of Parliament for Makindye West Division, Hajji Hussein Kyanjo.” As Uganda reflects on his impactful life, burial arrangements will be communicated at an appropriate time.
