Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, the president of the National Unity Platform party, has taken a shot at Chief Justice Owiny-Dollo over what he called misleading remarks he made about the Kabaka of Buganda Kingdom.

KAMPALA | NOW THEN DIGITAL  — The National Unity Platform party president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu has aimed a dig at Chief Justice Owiny-Dollo over what he termed as misleading comments he raised about the Kabaka of Buganda Kingdom.

In a video making rounds on different social media platforms, CJ Dollo termed the Baganda as a wicked group over comments he says they raised following the death of the Speaker of the 11th Parliament, Jacob Oulanyah.

Oulanyah was reported dead on Sunday in Seattle, United States. However, his death has since raised mixed reactions among a big section of Ugandans questioning why government repeatedly continues to export prominent figures to western countries for treatment rather than improving the health facilities around the country.

On this, many also went on to quote that taxpayers’ money was wasted in transporting and treating Oulanyah yet he still died.

However, addressing mourners at the deceased’s home in Muyenga, CJ Dollo who was quick to air out his views about such comments said they are from a wicked ethnic group, Buganda.

He in particular highlighted that when the Kabaka was bedridden with allergy, he was also transported to Germany for treatment like they did to Oulanyah but no Muganda came out to criticise the act yet the trip was also funded by government funds.

“But you, who were demonstrating… your ethnic leader was transported in a presidential jet to Germany using private funds he was not entitled. You did not demonstrate,” Dollo said.

“Is it because Oulanyah is an Acholi? Is it because Oulanyah doesn’t speak your language? Only a wicked person can fight a person who is fighting for his life,” he added.

Speaking about the selective comments, however, Kyagulanyi said CJ Dollo’s opinion was not based on evidence to prove that all comments raised about Oulanyah were exclusively from Baganda.

The NUP president who described the comments as diversional also noted that so many questions are yet to be answered concerning how and what claimed the Speaker’s life.

During a condolence book signing for the late speaker of Parliament, Jacob L’Okori Oulanyah, Mr Kyagulanyi stated that a person of CJ Dollo’s legacy should be more uniting than divisive.

“We continue to mourn this fallen son of Uganda and join his family in demanding an independent investigation into his untimely death. May his soul rest in peace,” Kyagulanyi said.

“Some regime apologists have been trying to divert the attention of the nation from the questions being asked. Too bad for them, they too are potential victims of the same system that is being accused of eating its own children. This must concern all of us,” he added.
