In line with its Ambition 2025 strategy, MTN Uganda, a leading telecommunications company, has received a test electric vehicle from Motorcare Uganda Ltd.

KAMPALA, UGANDA | NOW THEN DIGITAL — MTN Uganda, a leading telecommunications company, has taken a significant stride towards a greener future by receiving a test electric vehicle from Motorcare Uganda Ltd.

This milestone demonstrates MTN’s commitment to creating shared value and placing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles at the heart of its operations.

Sylvia Mulinge, CEO of MTN Uganda, stated, “The acquisition of a test electric vehicle from Motorcare Uganda Ltd demonstrates our unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship. We firmly believe that our growth and success should not come at the expense of the planet’s future. By gradually replacing our fleet with electric vehicles, we aim to drive a positive environmental impact in the communities we serve while inspiring others to join us in creating a sustainable future.”

Advancing towards a Sustainable Future

The introduction of an electric vehicle into MTN Uganda’s fleet represents a significant step in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and combating climate change.

Recognizing the need to transition away from fossil fuel-based vehicles in the face of increasing global temperatures, MTN Uganda aims to gradually replace its entire fleet with electric vehicles, pending the success of the test phase.

Fulfilling Net-Zero Emissions Commitment

MTN Uganda is dedicated to fulfilling its pledge of achieving net-zero emissions by 2040, as outlined in its sustainability framework. Embracing sustainable practices, the company is committed to improving energy efficiency, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and enhancing water and waste management across its operations.

With over 64% of its sites transitioned to hydroelectricity, the company has already achieved a remarkable 4.4% reduction in carbon emissions (tCO2). MTN Uganda firmly believes in the sustainable management of environmental resources for the benefit of all.
