Police Issue Statement Regarding Shooting of Ugandan Blogger, Isma Olaxess

According to a source, Isma was shot dead near his home in Kyanja, sparking widespread shock and outrage.

Isma Olaxess or Jaja Iculi, has been killed in a shooting incident in Kyanja, a Kampala suburb. The motive for his killing is not yet known, and investigations are currently underway.

KAMPALA, UGANDA | NOW THEN DIGITAL — Self-styled blogger Ibrahim Tusubira, who went by the name Isma Olaxess or Jaja Iculi, was shot and killed by unknown gunmen in the Kyanja suburb of Kampala, according to reports. The motive for his killing is not yet known.

The Uganda Police have released a statement saying they are actively investigating the shooting incident that occurred on May 5 at approximately 9:20 PM in Kyanja Central Zone.

According to preliminary reports, an unidentified gunman armed with an SMG opened fire on the vehicle that Isma was traveling in, resulting in his fatal shooting.

Celebrating the Death of Minister Charles Okello Engola

The blogger had most recently produced a video in which he celebrated the death of Minister Charles Okello Engola, accusing him of failing to look after his workers, including his shooter and bodyguard, Private Wilson Sabiiti.

Iculi had criticized Engola for causing the arrest of Ugandan citizens and claiming that UPDF personnel captured battering Ugandans on video were from West Africa.

The video went viral, and many people expressed their outrage over his comments.

Investigative Journalist Reports on the Incident

Investigative journalist and news anchor Canary Mugume tweeted first about the incident and said, “Olaxes is said to have been attacked by unknown gunmen in Kyanja who shot and killed him.”

While Darren Allan Kyeyune tweeted, “Blogger Ibrahim Tusubira commonly known as Isma Olaxes/Jjajja Iculi has been shot dead near his home in Kyanja, a Kampala suburb.”

The Police Statement on the Incident

According to the police statement, preliminary reports indicate that an unidentified gunman armed with an SMG opened fire on the vehicle, resulting in the fatal shooting of Tusubilwa Ibrahim, who was seated in the passenger seat at the time of the attack.

The police have cordoned off the area to ensure the safety of the public and facilitate the ongoing investigation process. The authorities assure the public that every effort is being made to bring the perpetrators to justice and provide answers to this senseless act of violence.
