As of today, Nigerian afrobeat singer Divine Ikubor, known by his stage name Rema, has surpassed one billion streams on Spotify.
KAMPALA, UGANDA | NOW THEN DIGITAL — Divine Ikubor, a Nigerian singer whose stage name is Rema, has achieved the milestone of reaching 1 billion streams across all credits on the Spotify platform.
- In the last 24 hours, Nigerian Afrobeats singer Divine Ikubor, better known as Rema, has passed one billion streams on Spotify across all the credits in his catalogue.
- In addition, Rema also became an official member of Boomplay’s Golden Club earlier this year after crossing 100 million streams on the platform.
- Temilade Openiyi aka Tems, who achieved global fame as a featured artist on Wizkid’s chart-topping single ‘Essence’, also reached 1 billion Spotify streams last month.
- The latest Rema achievement comes from the success of recent submissions like ‘Calm Down’, which was recently certified diamond in France and gold in the US.
With his Spotify feat, the Mavin Records singer joins the ranks of Burna Boy, Wizkid, CKay, and Davido, among others.
Additionally, singer Temilade Openiyi, aka Tems, who shot to worldwide fame by featuring on Wizkid’s chart-topping song ‘Essence’, also crossed a milestone of one billion streams on Spotify last month.
In addition, Rema was also named a member of Boomplay’s Golden Club after crossing one hundred million streams on the streaming platform earlier this year.
Rema’s latest achievement is a direct result of the international success of submissions like ‘Calm Down’, which recently received a diamond certification in France and a gold certification in the United States.
“Calm Down” is included on Rema’s debut album Rave & Roses, which was released in March. It was co-produced by Michael “London” Hunter and Andre Vibez.
In 2022, Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ ranked second on YouTube in Nigeria and ninth on Spotify, after being updated with a new verse by Selena Gomez. It boasts 258 million YouTube streams and is the ninth most streamed song on Spotify.
In addition, the single was the first to top the newly-launched Middle East and North Africa singles chart of the International Federation of Phonographic Industry.
With his debut album ‘Rave & Roses‘, Rema was one of Afrobeats’ most promising new voices in 2022, and earned nominations for internationally renowned awards, such as the MOBO Awards in the UK.
On 16 December, the Nigerian singer will perform in an all-star show to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Mavin Records, a label celebrating its 10th anniversary this year with the Chapter X compilation album.
