Nairobi, Kenya | NOW THEN DIGITAL — Nigerian Afrobeats luminaries Rema, Oxlade, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Tems, and Ayra Starr, alongside Cameroonian songstress Libianca, stand as contenders for accolades at the upcoming 2023 Billboard Music Awards, scheduled for broadcast on November 19th.

These awards, with a legacy spanning over three decades, honor remarkable musical accomplishments across various metrics, encompassing album and digital song sales, streaming figures, radio airplay, live performances, and social interaction.

Rema, who emerges as Africa’s most prominently nominated artist in this year’s roster, garners an impressive total of seven nominations. His global hit “Calm Down,” a collaboration with Selena Gomez, secures nominations in categories such as Top Collaboration and Top Radio Song.

Additionally, Rema is a contender in the newly introduced Top Afrobeats Artist category, where he faces stiff competition from Burna Boy, Libianca, Tems, and Wizkid. The category of Top Afrobeats Song, also making its debut, features tracks from Rema, Oxlade, Libianca, Victony, and Ayra Starr.

On the global stage, US pop sensation Taylor Swift leads this year’s nominations with an impressive tally of 20 nods. Morgan Wallen and SZA follow closely with 17 nominations each, while The Weeknd secures 16 nominations, solidifying their positions as notable contenders in the 2023 Billboard Music Awards.
