Kasese, Uganda | NOW THEN DIGITAL — During a thanksgiving service at St. Paul Cathedral in South Rwenzori Diocese, Kasese District, Rwenzururu King Charles Wesley Mumbere Iremangoma called upon his subjects, particularly politicians, to actively promote peace, security, unity, and coexistence in the region. He discouraged politicians from using divisive tactics for their own gain.
King Mumbere expressed concern that some politicians were dividing the kingdom and its people due to their selfish interests. He made it clear that those seeking favors from him for personal gain should not approach the palace.
Addressing the issue of Yira state, King Mumbere acknowledged that the kingdom had experienced confusion and tension with the central government. He attributed this to “Kabudunga” or traitors within the kingdom who had caused disruption and instability. He clarified that the events of 2016 had been triggered by false allegations that the kingdom was involved in a secession plot from Uganda.
He emphasized that even if the kingdom had considered establishing a separate state, they would not have chosen the name “Yira.” King Mumbere also noted that if he had genuinely intended to pursue secession, he would have left the kingdom and mobilized supporters outside the institution.
King Mumbere called for cooperation with traitors to prevent them from feeding false information to the central government. He urged the central government to seek clear information from them before planning military operations.
The king disclosed that he had engaged with President Museveni on strategies to promote peace and development in the sub-region before his return on October 4. Additionally, Queen Agnes Ithungu Asimawe expressed her intention to revive the Rwenzururu Nyabaghole Development Foundation to mentor young girls in various aspects, including reproductive health.
