Kampala, Uganda | NOW THEN DIGITAL — The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) drops charges against Patrick Kasaija, also known as Pato, a former key suspect in the Susan Magara kidnap and murder case. Senior state attorney, Irene Nakimbugwe, informed the High Court of this decision on Monday. The DPP aims to withdraw the charges, as stated in the nolle prosequi signed by Nakimbugwe. The trial is set to commence on October 23, 2023, and is under the jurisdiction of Justice Alex Ajiji.

In 2018, Patrick Kasaija was labeled by the state as the alleged mastermind behind Susan Magara’s kidnapping and murder. The police named Kasaija, Byensi Yakoub, and Zahra as missing suspects involved in this heinous crime. They suspected Kasaija, also known as Pato, of leaving the country with the ransom money after Magara’s murder.

President Museveni sought Pato’s extradition from South Africa, suspecting his involvement in negotiating the one million dollar ransom demanded by the kidnappers. Pato was extradited to Uganda after these efforts.

It’s essential to remember that the suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty. His case file is being processed for the DPP’s consideration on whether to charge him with the other accused individuals or not. Kasaija was accused alongside several others of masterminding Susan Magara’s kidnapping and murder.
