Tems Wins at the 2022 BET Hip Hop Awards: The Full List

Tems, a Nigerian singer, won Best Collaboration at the 2022 BET Hip Hop Awards as the only African winner.

Tems won the Best Collaboration category at the BET Hip Hop Awards 2022 as the only African winner. On 30 September, rapper Fat Joe hosted the ceremony at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center in Atlanta, which was aired exclusively on BET on 5 October.

LAGOS, NIGERIA | NOW THEN DIGITAL — In the Best Collaboration category at the 2022 BET Hip Hop Awards, Nigerian singer Tems won as the only African. The event was hosted by rapper Fat Joe and broadcast exclusively on BET on 5 October. The ceremony was taped at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center on 30 September.

  • During the BET Hip Hop Awards, Tems won the Best Collaboration category in 2022, the only African winner. Taking place at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center in Atlanta on 30 September and airing exclusively on BET on 5 October, the ceremony was hosted by rapper Fat Joe.
  • A total of four African representations were also nominated for the 2022 BET Hip Hop Awards, including Burna Boy, Ghana’s Black Sherif, South Africa’s Blxckie, and Zimbabwe’s Nadia Nakai.
  • A French rapper Benjamin Epps won the Best International Flow category, beating Black Sherif, Black Ckie and Nadia Nakai. For his work on the visuals for ‘Last Last’, Burna Boy was shortlisted for Video Director of the Year, but lost to Kendrick Lamar and Baby Keem’s ‘Family Ties’.
  • Also on 3 October, Tems received a BMI Impact Award for 2022 at the Savoy Hotel in London.

Tems won for her appearance on Future’s ‘Wait For U’ featuring Drake, which also competed for Song of the Year, but lost to Latto’s ‘Big Energy’.

All four of the continent’s other representatives at the 2022 BET Hip Hop Awards, Burna Boy, Ghana’s Black Sherif, South Africa’s Blxckie, and Zimbabwe’s Nadia Nakai, lost their respective categories.

Among the contenders for Best International Flow, Black Sherif, Blxckie and Nadia Nakai lost to French rapper Benjamin Epps.

The visuals for Burna Boy’s song ‘Last Last’ were shortlisted for Video Director of the Year, but lost to Kendrick Lamar and Baby Keem’s ‘Family Ties’ by US rappers Kendrick Lamar and Baby Keem.

In addition to Artist of the Year and Lyricist of the Year titles, Kendrick Lamar also won Best Live Performer, Album of the Year, and Best Hip Hop Video.

Other big winners at the 2022 BET Hip Hop Awards included Drake, who won three awards, including Best Collaboration and Best Featured Verse.

Additionally, Tems was awarded a 2022 BMI Impact Award at a ceremony held at the Savoy Hotel in London on 3 October.

A UK-based performance rights organisation recognized Tems for her contribution to music, joining other innovators such as Raye and Arlo Parks.
